The fortified village is believed to have been founded around 1385, shortly after the Florentine Republic took control of Arezzo and its surrounding territory.

It continues to preserve its authentic medieval character, including an imposing keep, visible sections of defensive walls and the compact appearance of a small fortress overlooking the valley.
